In June 2026 the Food Standards Agency said healthy adults should have no more than 10mg of CBD a day. Under-18s, anyone pregnant, breastfeeding or trying to conceive, and people on medication should avoid it. CBD is a novel food in the UK, not a controlled drug.

The two biggest CBD drinks brands have already moved. Trip has cut the CBD in its drinks from 15mg to 10mg a can, and Goodrays has done the same. One can now uses your whole daily allowance.

Beyond CBD

Brands are moving to other ingredients. Worldpanel puts UK functional drinks at around £178 million, up 24.5%, with almost 30% of households buying them. Trip's Elderflower Mint Mindful Blend uses magnesium and lion's mane instead of CBD.

IWSR found people try functional drinks out of curiosity or for alcohol-like effects, while health is the main reason people buy no-alcohol beer.
